Designing @ Microsoft Azure

08/2021 - Today

As the design lead for Azure Network Security suite products, a $1.27B Azure business, I not only shepherd end to end engineering committed features with 8+ Product managers, but also lead feature envision efforts based on comprehensive understanding in user research and customer insights to ideate and deliver portal experiences that enhance product values while align with customer highly desired needs.

As a designer, I ______

> build design rationales around user research insights and business data.

I collaborate closely with business planning and data experimentation team on top of the usual product trio (Product managers, engineers, and researchers) to steadily demonstrate design impact with objective business data and portal telemetry.

This effort has generated feature experiments with projected 6+ digits ACRs within 4 weeks solely from portal design changes, which was set as an organizational wide example to inspire other teams to follow similar practices. Along with other key collaborators we have now transformed into a v-team to create guidelines and provide consultations for design experimentations.

> drive goal alignment efforts cross-disciplines

Working with back-end engineering/product team has presented me fresh challenges and the needs to increase product team’s UX maturity. I, therefore, established an enhanced design engagement model including facilitating roadmap planning workshops for new product, and composing design specs to illustrate design rationales both visually and verbally, which gradually brought design into the core of business strategy and as an early product development key component.

This effort now empowers the product owners to showcase their visions to leadership and engineering early, and also allows me to illustrate design strategy ahead of time to avoid unnecessary API design blockers for an intuitive portal user experience.

> love contributing to knowledge sharing and foster an inclusive team environment

Since school years, I have always been passionate about building communities. Upon joining Microsoft, I continue to dedicate time and efforts into culture building events within and beyond my own design team through multiple Azure organization wide v-teams to host and facilitate talks/events including but not limited to topics such as “From an IC to a Manager“, “Career Journey sharing among leaders”, and “Designing for an accessible CLI experience”.
