Sit tight, and let me show you what I have learned about UX design, product design and product management.

About this #1 Beauty App company in China

If you randomly ask someone in China whether he or she knows about Meitu, the answer is almost 100% yes. Meitu (SEHK: 1357) started in 2008 and quickly became the most well-known beauty photo app company, especially among Chinese ladies. From elementary girls to moms, you can find them using different apps created by Meitu which are mainly for photo and video editing and virtual makeup applications. Meitu even once released their own smartphones for a couple years before transitioning to collaborate with Xiaomi Technology. Now, Meitu is tackling the industry of smart beauty tools, such as skin quality detector and facial spa tool.

My role

In the job description: a UX Designer

I was hired as a UX Design intern within Meitu Design department where designers support all the products based on use cases and product team needs.

My actual responsibilities: a UX generalist/specialist

In Meitu, most of the designers focuses on UI and have never conduct a ux research before. I was so happy to share and utilize my experience from past ux researcher roles. In short 2 months period, I was involved with 3 different products with overlapping timeline. I would be in a meeting crafting a usability testing plan for product A, while conversing my design drafts with PMs in the afternoon for product B. This hustler-style of work environment excites me so much.

About Chic Cam

MVP | Heuristic Evaluation | Mobile App Design

I was lucky to be involved in this iOS MVP that the company plan to release in apple store in August 2019. I have learned so much from working on this design sprint alongside amazing engineers, product managers and UI designers. This product aims to solve one of the top concerns among Chinese early rising social media content creators - people don’t want to spend too much energy and time to create high-level digital content including pictures.
